1 Kilohertz = 1000 Hertz

Key Formulas

Hertz → Kilohertz

kHz = Hz × 0.001

Kilohertz → Hertz

Hz = kHz × 1000

Megahertz → Gigahertz

GHz = MHz × 0.001

Gigahertz → Megahertz

MHz = GHz × 1000

Formula

Hz = kHz × 1000

Audio software, RF libraries, and hardware timer registers often demand frequencies in raw hertz even when the spec sheet or user interface shows kilohertz. A 48 kHz recording session becomes 48,000 Hz when you need to set a microcontroller's sample rate register. A 100 kHz power converter switching frequency becomes 100,000 Hz in the oscilloscope's measurement readout. Multiplying by 1,000 bridges the two notations without any change to the underlying signal.

Real-World Examples

CD audio sample rate. DAW software shows 44.1 kHz in the project settings, but an audio driver API expects 44,100 Hz as the sample rate parameter.

44.1 kHz = 44100 Hz

Upper limit of human hearing at 20 kHz. Headphone frequency response curves and speaker spec sheets sometimes express this boundary in Hz for waveform calculations.

20 kHz = 20000 Hz

Ultrasonic transducer for distance measurement. An Arduino library for the HC-SR04 sensor works in Hz internally, so 40 kHz becomes 40,000 Hz in code.

100 kHz = 100000 Hz

AM radio station at 1,080 kHz. When entering the frequency into spectrum analysis software that expects Hz, the correct value is 1,080,000 Hz.

1080 kHz = 1080000 Hz
