1 Turn = 360 Degree

Key Formulas

Degree → Radian

rad = ° × 0.0174533

Radian → Degree

° = rad × 57.2958

Degree → Gradian

grad = ° × 1.11111

Gradian → Degree

° = grad × 0.9

Formula

degrees = turns × 360

Servo motors, stepper motor controllers, and CNC rotary axes track position in fractional turns or revolutions (e.g., 2.75 turns). When inspecting a machined part's angular position, verifying a robotic joint's range, or entering a waypoint into a navigation system, the angle must be expressed in degrees. A CNC lathe spindle at 3.25 turns has rotated 3.25 × 360 = 1,170° — an important value when computing the total angular displacement for threading operations.

Real-World Examples

Quarter turn — 90°, a right angle. The position of a robotic arm joint after indexing to its first quadrant stop.

0.25 tr = 90 °

Half turn — 180°, a complete reversal. The position a servo reaches when flipping a component to its opposite face in an automated assembly.

0.5 tr = 180 °

One full turn — 360°. The encoder count reset point for an absolute rotary encoder completing one full revolution.

1 tr = 360 °

2.5 turns — 900°. The total angular displacement of a lathe spindle thread-cutting cycle that makes two-and-a-half passes.

2.5 tr = 900 °
